Things to do

We are excited to share some of our favourite places and activities in Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek with you!

Here are a few recommendations for you to explore

CAPE TOWN

Table Mountain

Take a cable car ride to the top of Cape Town’s iconic landmark for incredible views of the city and coastline. It is advised to buy your cable car tickets online before heading to Table Mountain to avoid an extra-long queue. Please note, even with tickets you may queue for approx. 1-1.5 hours. Additionally, please consider the weather when planning a trip up table mountain.

Hiking is possible but not something we would recommend, if you fancy a hike please see Lion’s Head below.

Lion’s Head

Embark on a hike up Lion’s Head for panoramic views of Cape Town, especially during sunrise or sunset. The trail offers a memorable adventure and stunning photo opportunities. This activity is free and does not require any bookings/tickets.
Please allow approx. 40-45 minutes to hike up and 45 minutes – 1hr to hike down.

V&A Waterfront

Enjoy shopping, dining, and entertainment at this vibrant waterfront location.

Boulders Beach

Visit Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town, famous for its resident colony of African penguins.
Get up close and personal with these adorable creatures as they waddle around and swim in the crystal-clear waters.

Cape Point

Explore Cape Point Nature Reserve, located at the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula where two oceans collide.
Enjoy scenic drives, hike to the lighthouse, and take in the dramatic coastal views.

Chapman’s Peak Drive

Take a scenic drive along this coastal road. With its dramatic landscapes & views it has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the most beautiful coastal drives in the world. Please note, it is a toll road so should you wish to drive from one side (Hout Bay) to the other (Noordhoek) it will cost you R61 (return) or approx. £2.50.

One of our favourite things to do is pack a picnic & bubbles & park up to enjoy the incredible sunsets. Should you wish to only drive up for the sundowners (i.e. not cross over to Noordhoek) you can tell the booth representative you only wish to watch the sunset, they will hand you a slip and let you through for free. You can only drive for 2.7KM’s past the toll gate before needing to park up. Please note, the sun sets approx. 7.40PM and you will need to return back through the gate by 8PM.

Robben Island

Visit this historic island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
Take a guided tour to learn about South Africa’s history and the struggle against apartheid.

Muizenberg

Muizenberg is a vibrant coastal suburb, renowned for its picturesque beach, colourful beach huts, and excellent surfing conditions.

Kirstenbosch Gardens

Acclaimed as one of the greatest botanic gardens of the world. Few gardens can match the sheer grandeur of the setting of Kirstenbosch, against the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain.

The Gardens
(Please note: due to the time of the year, most flowers and plants at the gardens will not be flourishing)

Summer Concerts
(Kirstenbosch offers a series of summer concerts from October to March every year. The artists are made of local and international artists. Be sure to check closer to the time what artists are named for the 2024/2025 season as tickets may sell out)

Beaches

Depending on where you stay before or after the wedding:
– Camps Bay
– Clifton
– Llandudno
– Hout Bay

Safari near Cape Town

Aquila Safari

For the best safari experience we highly recommend travelling to the Kruger National Park, however, we know this may not be feasible due to timing/budget. Therefore, your best option for those seeking your first safari experience is Aquila Safari.

Located just two hours from Cape Town and set in the pristine Southern Karoo against a backdrop of Mountains, Aquila Private Game Reserve offers an exciting taste of Africa. It is home to a variety of animals, including the Big 5 – offering safaris in four-wheel-drive vehicles, quad bikes or on horseback.

Silvermine Nature Reserve

Part of the Table Mountain National Park, Silvermine Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful places to spend a day. It offers the perfect opportunity for hiking, climbing, mountain biking, picnics and/or swimming. Please note, entrance is cash only.
